A heavily constructed musical instrument, the piano, becomes the symbol of struggle towards excellence. The piano player, faced against social restraints, oppressing teachers and compulsive family, bends under the weight of her own wish. Now she must deconstruct her instrument and rediscover her own identity, unfolding its layers towards the core of joy, towards a time reminiscent of innocence.
After a long hiatus devoted to completing his academic studies, Emmanouel Rovithis revisits his Embodied Sound Dramaturgy method in this multimedia dance-theater performance. The recording of rehearsals, intended to gather raw material, gradually takes on a ritualistic character, as the team dismantles the director’s piano piece by piece in search of new ekphrastic possibilities.
