The Fabulous Case Of The Bat

Presented at

Date
2009

This hybrid installation–performance by the Free Fall Company draws inspiration from the evolution of living organisms to explore the social and existential tension between diversity and uniformity.

Beginning as an exhibition in which the performers appear as living sculptures in separate rooms —repeating the behaviours of animals and insects in cages— the installation unfolds into a choreographed dramaturgy that addresses notions of authority, community, discipline, and freedom.

Blending vocal narrative fragments with richly layered soundscapes and gritty beats, Emmanouel Rovithis composes his first full-length soundtrack for this choreographic performance.

The intense musicality also contributes to this harmonious mix (excellent musical composition and sound design by Emmanouel Rovithis) which "binds" with Aris Biniaris' directorial perspective and subsequently imbues the acting of his actors with rhythm in speech, breaths and their body."

"The intense music of Emmanouel Rovithis and the choreography of Evi Oikonomou move the stage in the steps of a Kafkaesque nightmare."
